THE POWERLESS POWER: NIGERIA’S STRUGGLE FOR ATTENTION IN THE SCHOOL OF LIFE

MUSA-ODODO ABDULRAHAMAN

The High Cost of Distraction

Nigeria is a country in constant motion – fighting, struggling, and competing for political power. Yet, despite decades of leadership changes, from pre-independence to post-independence, power has failed to deliver development. The question we must ask ourselves is: What is the purpose of power if it cannot bring wisdom, progress, and transformation? What we have in Nigeria today is a powerless power – authority without wisdom, control without vision, and leadership without true direction.

We have been so consumed with the pursuit of power that we have lost sight of the fundamental lessons of life. Like distracted students in the grand School of Life, we have ignored the real teachings of Nature – the wisdom needed to build a great and unified nation.

Power Without Wisdom: The Nigerian Reality

Since independence, different leaders have occupied positions of power, yet our country remains stagnant. The same problems persist – poverty, insecurity, ethnic divisions, economic instability, and lack of infrastructure. If power were truly effective in its current form, Nigeria would have been a global model of progress by now. What we have is a cycle of leadership that lacks the wisdom to interrogate power itself.

Our obsession with political power has distracted us from paying attention to what truly matters – nation-building, unity, and the conscious creation of a great destiny. This lack of attention is the root cause of our national struggles.

Take, for example, the way elections dominate national discourse. Every four years, the entire country becomes fixated on political battles, but after the elections, nothing changes. Roads remain bad, hospitals remain underfunded, the youth remain unemployed, and insecurity remains a national crisis. Where is the wisdom in all these struggles for power if they do not lead to real solutions?

The Call to Interrogate Power

Power must be questioned. Power must be made to justify its existence. If power does not serve the people, then it is nothing more than a false illusion. We need to shift our attention away from the mere acquisition of power and toward the wisdom of how power should be used.

We must ask ourselves:

What is the true purpose of power in Nigeria?

Why has power not translated into national development?

Who is benefiting from power, and who is suffering from its misuse?

How do we redefine power to serve the collective good of Nigerians?

If we fail to ask these fundamental questions, we will continue to repeat the same mistakes, trapped in a cycle of leadership that produces no real progress.

The Critical Need to Come Together

Nigeria’s destiny is not an ordinary one. We are a nation chosen to birth a New Universal Civilization – one that will unify all of humankind. The Black people looks up to us, humanity is counting on us, and God Himself is waiting for us to awaken to our true purpose.

But we cannot achieve this destiny as a divided people. Our ethnic, religious, and political divisions have kept us blind to the bigger picture. We must rise above these distractions and embrace a higher consciousness – one that understands that our strength lies in our unity.

We need to reason together, to understand our collective purpose, and to build a nation rooted in wisdom, justice, and unity. The time has come for us to stop fighting over power and start focusing on how power should be used to fulfill our destiny.

Final Thought: The Ultimate Lesson from Nature

Nature teaches us that everything exists in harmony. The rivers do not compete with the mountains, the sun does not struggle with the moon, and the trees do not fight for dominance. Everything works together in balance. Nigeria must learn this lesson.

If we continue to focus on the struggle for power instead of the wisdom to use power effectively, we will remain a nation full of potential but devoid of progress. Power without wisdom is nothing but an illusion.

The time has come for us to become Conscious Students of Nature. The time has come for Nigeria to wake up and pay attention.

Our destiny is too great to be wasted on meaningless struggles. Let us come together, reason together, and build the Nigeria that history, humanity, and the Divine have destined us to create.

Yours for Nigeria as a Global Leader
