NIGERIA: WE ARE AT THE MOMENT OF AWAKENING AND QUESTIONING REALITY

MUSA-ODODO ABDULRAHAMAN

Towards a New Beginning and the Manifestation of Our Great Destiny

Nigeria stands at a defining crossroads in its socio-political evolution – a moment of awakening and deep introspection. Across history, great nations have undergone similar transitions, marked by a period of questioning reality, rejecting the status quo, and forging a new path toward national greatness. The journey ahead is uncertain, but its successful navigation depends on how we, as a people, respond to this transformative phase.

To usher in a New Nigeria that aligns with our unparalleled destiny, we must learn from historical precedents and adopt deliberate actions that ensure sustainable progress.

  1. The Moment of Awakening: A Nation in Search of Purpose

The growing consciousness among Nigerians is fueled by multiple factors:

Youth Activism and Social Media:

A tech-savvy generation is no longer passive. The #EndSARS movement (2020) was not just about police brutality but a symbol of youth awakening to systemic failures. Social media platforms have become a battleground for ideas, exposing corruption and governance failures in real-time.

Economic Realities:

With rising inflation, joblessness, and economic hardship, Nigerians are increasingly questioning the nation’s economic model. The wealth gap between the elite and the masses is glaring, demanding urgent systemic change.

Global Influences:

Technology and globalization have exposed Nigerians to better governance models worldwide. Citizens now compare their realities with those of progressive nations, fueling a collective demand for change.

This awakening is not merely about recognizing problems – it is about seeking solutions and demanding accountability.

  1. Questioning Reality: Challenging the Old Order

Historically, nations that have transformed their destiny have first confronted their own contradictions. In Nigeria, this moment is manifesting through:

Challenging Political Narratives:

Nigerians are increasingly skeptical of political promises. The electoral process, governance structures, and power dynamics are being critically examined like never before.

Economic Sustainability:

The over-reliance on oil, the neglect of agriculture and industry, and the lack of economic diversification are under scrutiny. Citizens are questioning the economic model that has left millions in poverty.

National Identity Crisis:

Nigeria’s diversity, once seen as an asset, has been manipulated for division. The calls for restructuring, regional autonomy, and resource control indicate a deeper search for an identity that fosters true unity and equity.

This questioning of reality is a necessary process in national rebirth. But to move forward, we must provide answers.

  1. Lessons from History: How Great Nations Transformed Themselves

Throughout history, many nations have gone through painful yet necessary transitions to redefine their destinies. Nigeria must learn from these experiences.

a. The United States – From Civil War to a Global Power

The U.S. overcame deep divisions, slavery, and internal strife through deliberate policies that promoted unity, economic development, and institutional strengthening. The Marshall Plan (post-World War II) showed how structured national investment can rebuild a country.

b. China – From Chaos to Economic Superpower

After the Cultural Revolution, China focused on industrialization, disciplined governance, and nationalistic economic policies. Today, China stands as a testament to the power of strategic planning and a clear national vision.

c. Germany – Rebuilding After War

After World War II, Germany rebuilt itself through deep institutional reforms, prioritizing education, industrialization, and social cohesion. The country’s economic miracle (Wirtschaftswunder) was a result of deliberate leadership.

d. Rwanda – From Genocide to National Rebirth

Rwanda, after the 1994 genocide, focused on unity, good governance, and economic transformation. President Kagame’s leadership turned Rwanda into one of Africa’s most progressive economies, proving that national rebirth is possible.

Key Takeaway:

Each of these nations embraced difficult but necessary changes, guided by strong leadership, clear vision, and national unity. Nigeria must chart a similar path.

  1. The Way Forward: Building a New Nigeria

To successfully transition into a new era, Nigeria must adopt a national framework that prioritizes the following:

a. Conscious Statecraft: The Deliberate Creation of a New Nigeria

Great Nations are not accidents of history but products of Conscious Statecraft. Nigeria must create a National Rebirth Blueprint with clear, actionable goals spanning 40 years. This blueprint should address governance, economic transformation, and national identity.

b. Institutional Reforms and Leadership Accountability

Strengthen democratic institutions to ensure electoral credibility.

Implement strict anti-corruption measures with real consequences.

Establish independent checks on executive and legislative powers.

c. Economic Diversification and Industrialization

Develop an Industrial Policy to promote manufacturing, agriculture, and technology.

Invest in Smart Farming and agribusiness to ensure food security.

Promote local production through economic incentives and investment in SMEs.

d. Education and National Orientation

Revamp the education system to focus on creativity, critical thinking, and skill acquisition.

Introduce National Identity and Patriotism Curriculum from primary school to university.

e. National Unity and Social Integration

Address ethnic and religious divisions through national dialogues and restructuring policies.

Promote The Confluence Assembly, where all Nigerians can engage in collective visioning for the future.

f. The Role of the People: A New Civic Consciousness

Every Nigerian must be an active participant in governance.

Mobilization for The Broad National Dialogue to engage all segments of society in shaping Nigeria’s future.

  1. The Ultimate Goal: Nigeria as a Global Leader

Nigeria’s awakening is not just about internal transformation but about fulfilling a greater destiny – becoming a beacon of African leadership and a global force.

To achieve this, we must:

Redefine our National Philosophy: The world must see Nigeria as the land where Humanity thrives.

Adopt ‘Humanity Is Life’ as our Universal Identity, positioning Nigeria as a leader in Global Civilization.

Build a new generation of patriotic citizens with a Universal Consciousness of Love and Unity.

Conclusion: A New Dawn Beckons

Nigeria is undergoing an epochal shift, and this moment must be seized with clarity and purpose. Nations do not rise by wishful thinking but by conscious effort, discipline, and sacrifice.

This awakening presents us with two choices:

To remain trapped in our past, repeating cycles of failure.

Or to embrace our destiny, consciously crafting a New Nigeria built on eternal principles.

The future belongs to those who see beyond the moment and act decisively. Let this be the generation that ushers in the Great and Unparalleled Destiny of Nigeria.

The Time is Now!

Yours for Nigeria as a Global Leader.
